There is always a new trend…gluten, soy, that one slice of GMO infused turkey breast you ate last week, they might as well label life “may cause cancer”. At this point everything is such a threat we might as well give up and say “If I'm going to die, at least I`ll die happy”.
With research continuing to prove that nutrition is key to health we still somehow fear that one puff of cigarette smoke will send us to the grave quicker than a McDonald’s cheeseburger. Our bodies are constantly exposed to carcinogens, but the most powerful of which we eat everyday.
The US is ranked 33rd on the list of healthiest countries in the world, but we’ve figured out how to send man to the moon and can't figure out how to properly fuel our bodies. Nutrition is so much more than 3 simple macros (protein, fat, carbohydrates), food is medicine yet 87% of Americans 65+ live with chronic medical conditions, and 53% take 4 or more medications a day.

What do all these countries have in common? They eat seasonally and locally, which means they eat food that grows from the earth during particular seasons. Australians main dishes consist of artichokes, asparagus, broccoli, cabbage in the Spring, and in the summer they have much lighter vegetables like cucumber, egg plant, squash, as well as lean meats like fish and chicken.
Singapore and Italy have a Mediterranean style of eating, consuming mainly vegetables and whole grains as well. These people do not only live longer than Americans, but have less health issues overall. Implementing more colorful veggies in your meal will not only make you feel healthy AF, but will also make some dope pics for the gram.
Even some of the top athletes in the world have gone vegan. Take a look at Olympic weightlifter, Kendrick Farris. Farris was the only US male weightlifter in the olympics this year, he broke the US record in the olympic trials, fueling his body with carbs like grains, beans, and veggies.
Don't freak out, I'm not saying to completely eliminate meat from your diet! We’re not rabbits, and our bodies need more than just leaves to live and thrive. When I'm pulling 2.5x my body weight I'm not thinking to myself “wow that salad really gave me lots of energy today”.
We think carbs make us fat, but its the composition or quality of these carbs that determines our bodies use and response. However bodies are best fueled with carbohydrates, which are probably the most underrated macronutrient.
Simply think twice about your fuel sources outside of macro nutrients alone #micronutrientsmatter. Go stuff your face with more vegetables, and live past 100 years old!
